PRE-TRAVEL COVID-19 REQUIREMENTS FOR TOURISTS

Planning travel in 2021 and the foreseeable future isn’t like it used to be. Covid-19 has affected us all, but we are now seeing positive progress with the introduction of vaccines and well-established health protocols across the world.

Here we outline (very simply), current Covid travel requirements in the countries we operate our safaris in.

  • To allow you to book your dream trip to Africa
  • And ensure that you have all the required information; documents, costs, regulations and requirements to allow for a speedy process when travelling

Please be aware that this is a rapidly changing environment and the information mentioned below are subject to amendment as and when new information is available, or changes are advised.

Travellers are advised to check for updated information prior to confirming their booking with Captured In Africa, however, our team will assist in providing updated information and relevant resources.

All Captured In Africa safaris will include the following:

  1. Overnight on departure (1-2 nights is required at the end of your itinerary, depending on PCR test result speed) at a city/town accommodation to allow for PCR Testing (unless in-camp testing has been booked, then this additional overnight may not be required)
  2. Physically distant game drives, activities and meals whilst on safari (i.e. reduced guest numbers on vehicles and during activities, physically distant meal tables)
  3. Regularly cleaned and sanitized guest areas, rooms, and equipment
  4. Masks are worn by all accommodation staff, safari guides and guests in main guest areas
  5. Safari accommodations, vehicles, tours, local flights and other services are provided in-line with and subject to all government Covid-19 health protocols

BOTSWANA

On arrival:

  • All travellers will be required to have a PCR COVID-19 Clearance Certificate issued by a recognised facility within no more than 72 hours before arrival into Botswana

On departure:

  • PCR Test Facilities: Diagnofirm is a private laboratory based in both Maun and Kasane
  • Cost of Test: BWP999 per person
  • Test results will be emailed directly to travellers within 24 hours
  • In-camp testing may be available at an additional cost that covers the test cost + helicopter/charter aircraft fees to bring test equipment to local safari camps. Tests are only available on weekdays

KENYA

On arrival:

  • Inbound travellers to Kenya must hold a negative PCR test certificate taken within 96 hours of their arrival into Kenya

On departure:

  • PCR Test Facilities: available in the country’s major public hospitals and private laboratories (Lancet laboratories, Meditest diagnostics)
  • Cost of Test: USD50 (public hospitals) USD100 (private) per person
  • Test results will be emailed directly to travellers within 24-48 hours
  • In-camp testing may be available at an additional cost that covers the test cost + helicopter/charter aircraft fees to bring test equipment to local safari camps. Tests are only available on weekdays

MALAWI

On arrival:

  • Inbound travellers to Malawi must hold a negative PCR test certificate taken within 10 days of their arrival into Malawi

On departure:

  • PCR Test Facilities: Multiple facilities
  • Cost of Test: USD100 per person
  • Test results will be emailed directly to travellers within 24 hours
  • In-camp testing may be available at an additional cost that covers the test cost + helicopter/charter aircraft fees to bring test equipment to local safari camps. Tests are only available on weekdays

MOZAMBIQUE

On arrival:

  • Inbound travellers to Mozambique must hold a negative PCR test certificate taken within 72 hours of their arrival into Mozambique

On departure:

  • PCR Test Facilities: Multiple facilities in Maputo
  • Cost of Test: USD100 per person
  • Test results will be emailed directly to travellers within 24-48 hours
  • In-camp testing may be available at an additional cost that covers the test cost + helicopter/charter aircraft fees to bring test equipment to local safari camps. Tests are only available on weekdays

NAMIBIA

On arrival:

  • Inbound travellers to Namibia must hold a negative PCR test certificate taken within 7 days of their arrival into Namibia

On departure:

  • PCR Test Facilities: PathCare (multiple locations throughout the country)
  • Cost of Test: N$850 per person
  • Test results will be emailed directly to travellers within 24 hours
  • In-camp testing may be available at an additional cost that covers the test cost + helicopter/charter aircraft fees to bring test equipment to local safari camps. Tests are only available on weekdays

RWANDA

On arrival:

  • Inbound travellers to Rwanda must hold a negative PCR test certificate taken within 72 hours of their arrival into Rwanda. Travellers will be also tested for COVID-19 upon arrival at the airport. All travellers are required to wait 24 hours for the results of their COVID-19 test taken upon arrival in a designated transit hotel.

On departure:

  • PCR Test Facilities: Multiple locations
  • Cost of Test: USD50 per person + USD60 (arrival test) per person
  • Test results will be emailed directly to travellers within 48 hours
  • In-camp testing may be available at an additional cost that covers the test cost + helicopter/charter aircraft fees to bring test equipment to local safari camps. Tests are only available on weekdays

SOUTH AFRICA

On arrival:

  • Inbound travellers to South Africa, including South Africans, must hold a negative PCR test certificate taken within 72 hours of their arrival into South Africa

On departure:

  • PCR Test Facilities: OR Tambo International Airport (24 hrs), Cape Town International Airport (between 1000 – 1800hrs daily)
  • Cost of Test: USD50 per person
  • Test results will be emailed directly to travellers between 6-48 hrs (Johannesburg) and within 24 hrs (Cape Town)
  • In-camp testing may be available at an additional cost that covers the test cost + helicopter/charter aircraft fees to bring test equipment to local safari camps. Tests are only available on weekdays

TANZANIA

On arrival:

  • If you are travelling with an airline that requires a negative COVID-19 certificate, or if your country of origin requires a negative COVID-19 certificate upon departure, then Tanzania will also request the certificate on arrival. All other travellers do not require a negative COVID-19 certificate, although it is recommended that all travellers have the certificate as a precautionary measure

On departure:

  • PCR Test Facilities: Multiple locations; including Mount Meru Hospital & Arusha Lutheran Medical Center, plus local Serengeti National Park (Seronera) sampling facility to fit in with your safari itinerary
  • Cost of Test: USD100 per person
  • Test results will be emailed directly to travellers within 48-72 hours
  • In-camp testing may be available at an additional cost that covers the test cost + helicopter/charter aircraft fees to bring test equipment to local safari camps. Tests are only available on weekdays

UGANDA

On arrival:

  • Inbound travellers to Uganda must hold a negative PCR test certificate taken within 72 hours of their arrival into Uganda

On departure:

  • PCR Test Facilities: Multiple testing facilities, including rapid Antigen testing for US travellers returning to the US
  • Cost of Test: USD100 per person
  • Test results will be emailed directly to travellers within 24-48 hours

ZAMBIA

On arrival:

  • All travellers will be required to have a PCR COVID-19 Clearance Certificate issued by the recognised facility within no more than 72 hours before arrival in Zambia

On departure:

  • PCR Test Facilities: Medprof, Livingstone
  • Cost of Test: USD120 per person
  • Test results will be emailed directly to travellers within 24-48 hours
  • In-camp testing may be available at an additional cost that covers the test cost + helicopter/charter aircraft fees to bring test equipment to local safari camps. Tests are only available on weekdays

ZIMBABWE

On arrival:

  • All travellers will be required to have a PCR COVID-19 Clearance Certificate issued by a recognised facility within no more than 48 hours before arrival into Zimbabwe

On departure:

  • PCR Test Facilities: Lancet Laboratories in Victoria Falls and Harare
  • Cost of Test: USD60 per person
  • Test results will be emailed directly to travellers within 24-48 hours
  • In-camp testing may be available at an additional cost that covers the test cost + helicopter/charter aircraft fees to bring test equipment to local safari camps. Tests are only available on weekdays

IMPORTANT NOTES

  1. Face masks are required at all time during travel; flights, airports, ground transports and public areas.
  2. Travellers may be tested for Covid-19 symptoms upon arrival into the above countries.
  3. Travellers with a Covid-19 vaccine are still required to show a negative PCR certificate upon arrival.
  4. Should tested travellers show symptoms of Covid-19, or should travellers provide an out-of-date negative Covid-19 certificate, then they may be refused entry to the country and/or be required to quarantine at a government authorised facility at the traveller’s expense
  5. Additional health screening questionnaires and/or entry screening forms may be required from travellers upon arrival and/or pre-arrival into the above countries. Captured In Africa will provide travellers will all relevant information and links prior to travelling.
  6. Travellers are solely liable for settling all COVID-19 related fees and costs which are paid for on the ground at the time of testing or pre-arrival.
  7. The accepted test in Rwanda is a SARS-CoV 2 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR).
  8. A negative PCR certificate is required for any onward travel to other African countries as part of the same travel itinerary.
  9. Captured In Africa are merely acting as a facilitator in order to assist travellers who require a Covid-19 PCR Test.
  10. All testing is carried out by third parties with no association or affiliation to Captured In Africa and we are not liable or responsible for any issues, delays or problems encountered during the testing process or the performance or non-performance of the testing facilities.
