Originally an old Kenyan homestead and since converted to a small lodge, Ololo is perfectly situated, on the beautiful banks of the Mbagathi River which forms the southern border of the Nairobi National Park.

The lodge is a mere 45-minute drive through the park from Nairobi and both main airports, yet the lodge’s secluded location feels like a world away. Set on a productive 20 acre working farm Ololo offers the joys of delicious ‘paddock to plate’ fresh ingredients. With our established and secluded gardens, guests are able to settle in and soak up a unique safari experience.

Wildlife is right on our doorstep and all can enjoy breathtaking views over the national park, to the famed Ngong Hills in the west, sundowner in hand. Or you may like to wile the hours away at the lodge by the pool, adventure on a safari into the park, take a tour of the Ololo Farm or perhaps an excursion with us into historic Karen.

The location is Mugie Conservancy, a private wildlife conservancy in Laikipia of almost 50’000 acres hosting an array of impactful community and conservation programs.

Perched on a hill are eight stone cottages, each with sweeping views of the Laikipia landscape. A large main house with open log fires will host guests for relaxing cocktails and scrumptious meals, prepared from a creative menu with ingredients sourced from our own vegetable garden. An infinity pool offers lovely shaded areas and a casual alfresco dining area, while a waterhole set in front of Mugie House attracts a variety of wildlife with a hide to offer some close encounters.

Governors’ Camp is listed among the TOP TEN SAFARI LODGES IN AFRICA for Travel+Leisure World’s Best Awards 2020!

Governors’ Camp nestles in the forest along the winding banks of the Mara River, it’s waters teeming with bird-life, hippo and crocodile, in the heart of Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve.

Governors’ Camp was the first permanent tented camp in the Masai Mara and it occupies the best wildlife viewing location in the Reserve. Today the camp enjoys the same prime location and is perfect for couples, families and friends wanting to experience the best of what a safari in the Masai Mara has to offer.

The entire camp is under canvas with all of the comforts of a luxury hotel. Some of the 30 tents line the riverbank, tucked into the forest they enjoy uninterrupted views over the Mara River, others have views across the sweeping plains of the Masai Mara.

Mugie Conservancy is at the forefront of conservation, operating as a low-impact cattle ranch alongside preserving the delicate and productive eco-systems that host abundant wildlife. Mugie supports cheetah and wild dog research with the Cheetah and Wild Dog Project, and lion research through collaring and monitoring with Lion Landscapes. Cutting edge community grazing programs and community empowerment projects through micro-economic assistance have encouraged engagement and investment from the local community in the conservation goals of Mugie.

Bordering the Masai Mara game reserve is a Masai community called Mara Rianda. The community has one primary school, the Mara Rianda Primary School. It was started by Masai parents who sold a few cattle to raise the necessary funds to build a few mud and wattle huts to educate their children. At the request of the local community, Governors’ Camp Collection together with the BBC team from Big Cat Diary, then got involved to help and in 2004, clients of Governors’ Camp set up the Mara Rianda Charitable Trust, in order to raise funds for the school.

In 2013 together partners, Governors’ Camp opened a Health Centre at Mara Rianda just outside the Masai Mara National Reserve for our Maasai community neighbours. CHP (Community Health Partners Kenya, who now run the clinic) offer accessible, affordable and quality healthcare for all people; additional services include general outpatient care, antenatal and postnatal care, well child clinic, family planning, HIV testing and counselling, laboratory services, HIV / Aids Care and treatment, integrated community outreach services, prevention of mother to child transmission, OVC care, TB care and management, nutrition and dietetics and water and sanitation advice.

This health facility has dramatically improved access to quality healthcare for the Maasai community in the Mara Rianda area.
